    Annual Singles Competition Results

Well first of all let me say a very big thank you to the men and ladies who made the effort to come to this once off annual event. The turnout was one of the best we have had over the last few years and the final amount of people who entered was 44.

A big thank you to Algoa Toyota Uitenhage and Newton Park who in total arranged prizes and promotional gifts to the value of R5500. Also a thank you to Mike Burger, our chairman for sponsoring a case of Klippies and Coke. In total more than 34 prizes were given out ranging from Lazer Pens, Bush Knifes, Self Defense Sprays, Caps, Shirts, Clocks, Tool Kits, Braai Kits etc, as well as complimentary warning triangles for everybody who was present on the day. Sorry to those who didn't get a give away, we really tried to make sure as many of you as possible got.

The food was great, the atmosphere fantastic and from what I have heard, a great day was had by all. Total prize money up for grabs on the day was R1480.00.

    Now for the winners:

    1st: Mike Burger - Jades Hustlers R700
    2nd BJ Ferreria - Jades Hustlers R350
3rd Jason Thorne - Jades Pocket Rockets R250
4th Jared Thorne - Jades Pocket Rockets R180

Very well done indeed. Well done Jades on all four top finishers coming from your establishment.

We will inform the captains at a later stage as to when the doubles competition will be held and where.

    Pool Rules For The League

Many queries have been raised regarding what rules the players are adhering to while playing in our league. There have been numerous discussions and arguments over who is right and who is wrong regarding certain rules.

A decision was made to clarify this for two reasons. Firstly to get the message across that all players adhere to the same rules, and secondly, because of the playoffs coming up soon, we need all the players to be fully aware of what rules this league is adhering to and this will also be the rules that the committee will go to, to settle any disputes, should they arise.

Some players are incorporating international eight ball rules into their game which do not apply to the Soth African rules. This league is playing according to the latest South African eight ball pool rules. This will not be adjusted to suit players requests. The issue of which eight ball rules should be used will be discussed before the commencement of the league next year.

If the league continues allowing players to interpret rules on their own, it will lead to confusion and players will not know what is allowed and what is not allowed. We need uniformity for all players and that is the reason the issue was brought before all the captains.

The current 2010 South African senior masters competition has already been completed and these players played according to the rules that we are.

A copy of the rules which our league adheres to can be found on the link below.

    Prizegiving Date

The prizegiving will be held at Westview school on the 13th November 2010.

All attendies will have to pay R60 per person to their captain before the function. This will enable us to determine the exact amount of people who will be attending the prizegiving.

ALL captains will be responsible for players who say they will attend and don't. Any player not attending when in fact they have instructed the committee that they will, will forfeit their R60. This is being done for catering purposes, so should you attend, your money will be given to you when you arrive at the function.

You will be advised as to what time the function will start closer towards the time.

    Website Results

The 13th of September will be the last results you will see on this site. There will no longer be results available on this website after this date.

Please ensure you get a chance to check the last results during the week of the 13th. Due to the prizegiving, we would prefer to still have a bit of a suprise as to who is where and who has won what, so the stats will be down after this weeks play.

My final results will be checked by two other people before prizegiving and each captain will receive his individual players performance as well as his teams final performance just before the prizegiving to ensure they are happy with the results. So those of you who continue to monitor yourselves, please continue to do this, as it will allow you to compare your results to the final results that your captain will receive. This will help prevent any mistakes from happening.

Please don't bother phoning me asking for results, nobody will be getting any information regarding the remaining games.

Outcome of captains meeting on 5th August 2010

    Treasurer Resignation

As most captains and players must know by now, Tammy resigned as our pool league treasurer and secretary. Tammy did a outstanding job in the time she spent with the league and she will be sorely missed for her dedication and time she put into making sure we all had the relevant information and reminders for all the different functions and venues that were held by the relevant establishments.

Tammy, thank you very much for everything you have done for the league and thanks for all the phone calls and reminders you sent to all the captains and players alike to ensure that the league ran smoothly and effeciently.

From myself, Mike and Errol, we wish you all the best.

    What constitutes a whitewash

Two teams had mentioned that whitewash rules were not completely understood, so a vote was taken to decide how whitewashes would be allocated, and under what circumstances merited a whitewash result.

This issue was raised because on certain occasions a foul had been commited on the break and one or two balls were sunk when the break was made. This left the approaching player either one or two shots, depending on the foul, to finish off the game.

Of the nine captains present at the meeting, eight voted that for a whitewash to take place, and to be officially noted on the scoresheet, your opponent must have 7 of his own balls remaining on the table after you have potted all of your balls and the black. These balls do not have to be potted consecutively, but a total of 7 of a players balls need to be potted to result in a whitewash. If a player sinks a object ball and the cue ball on the break, and the approaching player nominates the already fallen ball and sinks the remaining six balls and the black, this will not be merited as a whitewash.

If there are any other queries regarding this rule please speak to your captains so that they can bring it up again at the next captains meeting. Just remember this one thing though. Your opponent must have 7 balls remaining on the table after you have potted your balls and the black.

    Stopping the ball from dropping

If a player in any way handles a cue ball while the ball is in motion, or in the process of going through the pocket to the cue ball outlet on the table, the opponent will be awarded two vists. This means even if a player waits for the cue ball to drop, then proceeds to lift the cue ball out of the pocket before it falls away to the table outlet, it still constitutes a foul and that player's opponent will receive two vists to the table.

Please take notice here. When you are playing a opponent and the opponent has played a shot and it looks like his cue shot will go in off. If you proceed to either stop that cue ball from dropping or retrieve that cue ball while it is still in the pocket after falling and about to run through the table, you will forfeit two visits to your opponent, even though your opponent was about to give you two visits.

If you do this twice in one game, this will result in loss of frame. Please advise all your players of this rule.

    Singles and Doubles Stats Averages

Some of you may have noticed another block of information below. I have decided to include the statistics for singles and doubles for all the teams. One can now get a very good idea on which team is stronger or weaker in singles or doubles. It reflects the games played, lost, averages, percentages and streaks in both the singles and doubles.

I think this information could come in handy for some teams who play different reserves at different times, like this reserve for the singles and another reserve for the doubles. It certainly is interesting to see who leads in the different winning streaks.

I think it is information worth providing, considering the playoffs are around the corner.

    Regards

    Lee
